One of the most southern fourteener of Colorado, Little Bear 14,037ft. offer great climbing from an awesome base camp at Como lake. To reach Como lake we left Alamosa on route #160, then # 150 after the turn off we crossed the flat land on an easy sandy road but as soon as we started climbing the road got really rough, extremely rough and Jim did the best to reach the 9,000 ft mark, after that we walked, we preferred way of traveling. some hardcore with modified vehicle reach Como lake but you have to be an expert. The camp at Como lake is fantastic, grass, water, a perfect spot. The next day we left very early in order to reach the famous hourglass by daylight. The hourglass glass was dry an easy to manage, John join us an we stayed together all the way in order to avoid any rock fall. We reach the summit by 7:30 am and Jim celebrated his 58th fourteeners. congratulation, way to go ! The way down was swift and since no one was climbing up the hourglass and no ice or running water made it easy.We down climb to camp, pack and hiked out to the San Luis valley.
